1) Makhlouqaatun – creation of Allahنِ
I created the jinn and humankind only that they might worship Me. [Adh-Dhariyat:56
“And the jinn did He create of smokeless fire”. [Ar-Rahman:15]
2) Ghaibiyyah – invisible or unseen
O Children of Adam! Let not Shaitân (Satan) deceive you, as he got your parents [Adam and Hawwa (Eve)] out of Paradise, stripping them of their raiments, to show them their private parts. Verily, he and Qabîluhu (his soldiers from the jinn or his tribe) see you from where you cannot see them. Verily, We made the Shayâtin (devils) Auliyâ’ (protectors and helpers) for those who believe not. [Al-Araf:27]
Reported by by Ibn Abbas(ra), that Ibn Jurayr(ra) said that the messenger Muhammad (saw) said, “The jinn cannot be seen.”
3) Sufliyyah – earthly/ worldly [55:33] [51:56]
4) Nariyyah – from flames [7:12] before humans [15:27] [55:15]
5) Gender:
a) Yatanasaloun – they reproduce
b) Yatakhatharoun – they get married [18:50] [72:6]
6) Strength – yarowna wa la naraa hum – they can see us but we cant see them [7:27]
7) Responsibility – mukhalafoun – must follow the shari’ah [51:56] [6:130] [17:88]
8) Belief – They are kaafiroon or mu’minoon [72:1-4] [72:14-15] [18:50]
9) Hereafter:
a) youhsharoun – will be resurrected [6:128]
b) youhshaboun – will be accounted [11: 119]
10) Skills: great capability/skills – [38:36-37] [27:39] [34:13]
11) To receive and deliver – [72:8-9] [46:30]*
Between Isa and Muhammad (saw) the jinn were able to transcend the boundaries and they used to convey certain unknown matters to the soothsayers, however when Muhammad (saw) came they were prevented by the shooting stars as Allah mentions in the Qur’an.
1) Al-Umoul al mastourah – not known by anyone [34:14] – cant access this
2) Al Umoul al Mashourah – known – past or present – accessible
Ibn Jurair and Ibn masoud recorded that Muhammad (saw) was reciting the Qur’an chapter iqra at fajr on his way to taaif and Ibn Abbas said that he was informed that the jinn listened to it. This is in chapter [46:29-31]
